Saddam believes in

Addressing the Healthcare Crisis

This page highlights some of Saddam’s priorities on this issue and is not a full list of his positions. Have a question or idea we haven’t covered? Get in touch with us HERE.

Senator Salim believes healthcare should be a right and not a privilege tied to where you work or how much you earn. He supports a Medicare for All approach that guarantees every American access to quality, affordable care from the doctor’s office to the pharmacy. Virginians shouldn’t have to worry about losing care when they change jobs, retire early, or take time to care for family. Under Saddam’s vision, Medicare would cover primary care, mental health, dental and vision services, women’s health, emergency care, and prescription drugs for everyone.

Too many Americans live one illness away from financial crisis, and millions have lost coverage when they needed it most. We’re told that guaranteeing affordable healthcare would be too expensive. But right now, Americans spend more per person on healthcare than people anywhere else, even in countries where everyone is covered. The difference is, they get care; we get bills. It’s time our system worked for patients, not profits.

Senator Salim is committed to driving down prescription drug prices and regulating pharmaceutical benefit managers and corporate price gouging that burden families with the highest costs in the world. He supports reforms to ensure insurance companies can’t deny life-saving medicine through arbitrary prior authorizations, and that patients, not bureaucracy, come first in every decision about care.

Saddam also believes in protecting and strengthening the Affordable Care Act, restoring funding stripped away from Medicare and Medicaid, and safeguarding reproductive freedom nationwide. That means codifying Roe v. Wade, expanding access to contraception and IVF, and ensuring women have the right to make their own healthcare decisions without government interference. He knows that health care equity includes defending access in every community from large cities to small towns across Virginia.

In Congress, Saddam will fight to save and strengthen rural hospitals by improving reimbursement rates, speeding up payments, and ensuring they have the staff and resources needed to serve their communities. He also opposes efforts to privatize the VA, and will fight to guarantee that every veteran receives the timely, high-quality care they’ve earned. Senator Salim’s vision is simple: every Virginian should have guaranteed, affordable, and dependable healthcare—no exceptions.
