Addressing Corruption in our Democracy

Many Americans are losing trust in our political systems. Billionaire donors and corporate lobbyists have spent decades buying influence in Washington, flooding campaigns with money to elect politicians who put profits over people.
The AI industry, data centers, big crypto, and AIPAC are trying to buy seats in Congress. I refuse to let them, because the only people who should own this seat are the voters.
In return for their million-dollar donations, they get tax loopholes, deregulation, and special treatment, while working families are left with higher costs, stagnant wages, and fewer opportunities. Our economy and our democracy both suffer when wealth determines who gets heard and who gets left behind.
Senator Salim believes in creating a democracy that works for the many, not the money. That starts by overturning the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision and getting corporate money out of politics. Saddam voted for ‘trigger law’ legislation that will immediately enact comprehensive campaign finance reform in Virginia when Citizens United is struck down. He has also authored legislation to ban super PACs and corporate PACs altogether, creating real transparency in political donations, and holding elected officials accountable when they put special interests ahead of their communities.
Senator Salim also supports bold reforms to restore and protect voting rights and accountability in government. He will fight to ban partisan gerrymandering nationwide, support the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and make it easier, not harder, for every American to vote. He believes members of Congress should serve the people, not themselves, which is why he supports banning stock trading for lawmakers, and requiring regular town halls to ensure elected officials answer to the people they represent.
Finally, Saddam is committed to restoring integrity at every level of government. He supports a legally binding code of conduct for Supreme Court justices, ending the abuse of presidential pardons, and strengthening ethical standards across the federal system. His message is clear: the government should be open, honest, and accountable to the people, and power should never be for sale.
