Senator Salim fights for the working and middle class in Virginia, consistently advocating to make the state a more affordable place for working families. He voted in favor of increasing Virginia’s minimum wage and supports raising the federal minimum wage.
He also voted in favor of expanding collective bargaining rights, and supports repealing the so-called "right-to-work" law.
In Congress, Saddam supports passing the PRO Act so that all working people have the freedom to join together and negotiate with their employers for better wages and working conditions. Senator Salim backs expanding overtime protections, and levying a surtax on corporations that pay their CEOs more than 250 times what the typical worker earns, while offering tax credits and subsidies to help small and mid-sized businesses adjust without cutting jobs or hours.
He believes we can level the playing field for small businesses by ending the special tax breaks that let giant corporations pay nothing in federal income taxes, and use those resources to expand CDFIs, community banks, SBA loans, and state-backed equity and technical assistance so more local entrepreneurs can get the capital they need to start and grow.
Senator Salim believes we should safeguard the retirement security working people have earned by opposing any cuts to Social Security and Medicare, making the wealthiest Americans pay their fair share by lifting the payroll tax cap above 400,000 dollars of income, and boosting incentives for employers to offer strong pension plans.
He believes we can make AI work for workers. He supports banning abusive surveillance, using AI to make jobs safer instead of cutting jobs, enforcing copyright rules, and guaranteeing worker voice, transparency, and human review in AI-driven decisions on the job.
We can grow an economy that has workers’ backs and helps local businesses thrive at the same time; that’s how we make sure hard work actually pays off and every American has a fair shot at reaching the middle class.
