Safeguarding Our Immigrant Communities

Senator Saddam Salim knows that Virginia’s immigrant communities are vital to our economy, culture, and shared future. This district is home to more than 350,000+ immigrants who contribute every day as workers, entrepreneurs, and neighbors. Senator Salim believes every person deserves to live without fear, and that local, state, and federal governments must work together to uphold that promise while protecting all our communities from violent crime.

In the Virginia Senate, Senator Salim led the fight to protect immigrants and ensure fair treatment under the law. He passed legislation to end cooperation with ICE until it complies with our laws and the Constitution, ban the detention of individuals at courthouses, hospitals, and schools, and prohibit federal officers from wearing masks during official duties to promote transparency and accountability, because safety and trust begin with fairness and respect.

At the federal level, Senator Salim supports a bold reimagining of our immigration system, one that replaces fear and punishment with compassion and efficiency. He believes immigration enforcement must uphold human rights, family unity, and due process, rather than racial profiling and brutality.

That’s why Saddam supports dismantling Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in its current form and replacing it with a more humane, accountable system focused on safe passage, fair adjudication, and community safety. His goal is to reform immigration enforcement around American values: justice, opportunity, and freedom for all who call this nation home.
