Saddam believes in

Addressing Social Media and Technology

This page highlights some of Saddam’s priorities on this issue and is not a full list of his positions. Have a question or idea we haven’t covered? Get in touch with us HERE.

Senator Salim believes technology should serve people and not exploit them. Our government has a responsibility to ensure innovation makes life easier, safer, and more productive for everyone. Too often, Big Tech companies have traded community and truth for profit, turning outrage into their business model and manipulating public trust for clicks and cash. America can lead the world in technology without sacrificing our children’s safety, our workers’ livelihoods, or the integrity of the information we consume.

In the General Assembly, Senator Salim carried legislation to crack down on the use of AI in political campaigns, to ensure that voters can tell the difference between reality and political speech. He supports commonsense regulations that hold social media companies accountable for the harm their platforms cause, especially to young people. That includes giving parents more tools to manage their children’s social media use, banning predatory algorithms targeting minors, and requiring transparency and independent audits of how platforms amplify content. Protecting free expression must never mean tolerating exploitation, manipulation, or disinformation.

Saddam also believes in ensuring America’s workforce remains strong and adaptable in the age of artificial intelligence. He supports investments in STEM education, apprenticeships, and worker re-training to prepare people for high-quality technology jobs. He will fight to make sure AI is used to make jobs safer and more fulfilling rather than to replace human workers, and that AI companies operate responsibly, respecting privacy, intellectual property, and human oversight in automated decision-making.

Finally, Senator Salim believes innovation must not come at the expense of our environment, energy stability, or national security. He supports holding data centers and other energy-intensive tech operations accountable for their local impacts, expanding broadband access to every community, and modernizing export and cybersecurity laws to safeguard U.S. technology from misuse. Alongside these efforts, he will champion digital literacy programs so students, parents, and communities can navigate the online world with confidence and resilience.
