Standing up for Public Education

This page highlights some of Saddam’s priorities on this issue and is not a full list of his positions. Have a question or idea we haven’t covered? Get in touch with us HERE.

Senator Salim is a proud alumnus of Fairfax County Public Schools, Northern Virginia Community College, and George Mason University. In the Senate, he fought for increased funding for our public schools and universities. He supports additional funding for early childhood education, raising teacher salaries, and ensuring that Virginia’s public colleges and universities all receive the funding and resources that our students deserve.

At the federal level, Saddam’s priorities will continue to reflect that record of results: improving reading and math achievement with evidence-based strategies, recruiting and supporting more qualified teachers, standing up to billionaire-backed voucher schemes that defund public schools, and expanding universal Pre-K. He also champions policies that connect students with career and technical programs, provide free school meals and mental health resources, and promote the safe and equitable use of technology in classrooms.

Senator Salim has also fought censorship and book bans, worked to streamline education access for disabled students, and is committed to ensuring a world-class public education for every student. In Congress, he won’t just defend the Department of Education, he will fight to improve our student loan system by eliminating privatization, championing loan forgiveness programs, and ensuring every borrower can repay on terms that work for them.
